Feile na nGeal June 17th – 19th 2016

Thurles Gaels will this year host Gort na Móna of Antrim in Division 8 of 2016’s ‘Feile na nGeal’.

This will be a unique occasion and the first time our young club gets to experience this festival of hurling. Over 3,00 young hurlers across 160 teams will participate in the biggest juvenile sports event in Europe this year.  It is indeed a big undertaking, from the upgrading of club facilities, the hosting of the traveling team all building to peak on Saturday night when the two clubs, players, parents and locals come together for an evening of food & entertainment. Thurles Gaels guests will be Gort na Móna of Antrim, with over forty players, mentors & parents traveling to Thurles it certainly promises a lot. Upon their arrival we shall raise the club flag of our guests to mark Kickham Park becoming their home for the weekend.
Of course we can’t forget about the hurling, on Friday evening Thurles Gaels will take a bus to Kilcolman home of Burgess GAA of Tipperary. There we will first give support to our guests Gort na Móna as they play Burgess @4pm. Our first ever game in Feile na nGael we play Carrick hurling Club of Leitrim @4.45pm, followed by Gort na Móna v Carrick @5.45pm . The last game of the evening sees us play Burgess @6.30pm.
Both teams will head back to Kickham Park for refreshments, there we will have a little chat about our clubs history and what being part of it & the GAA means to us. It will have been a long day, a good rest will be needed for Saturday. The next morning promises a lot, Kickham Park will be alive like never before as we play Gort na Móna in our final group game. No matter what the result both teams will have a knock out match to play @2.30pm.  If either wins they will then have a semifinal at 6.30pm.
When the hurling draws to a close for the day, we have a BBQ arranged for Kickham Park in our Marquee.  Then we will have a Quiz with teams made up of players from both clubs. Here’s a tip, knowing your clubs history will be a big help to winning the top prize. Music, song and everything you would expect hurling mad people to do (that’s right, talk about HURLING :-) ) We can’t wait, as we said preparations are underway with the club house getting a face lift. So kids, pucking all day and study at night, only 4 more sleeps to Friday.
